Description of Project

The TRACDIS program was developed to address the lack of training in advanced diagnostic techniques for infectious diseases in Afghanistan, where illnesses of viral, bacterial, or parasitological origin were predominant. It provided comprehensive in-situ training in methods such as PCR, ELISA, and culture for medical and veterinary laboratory technologists. The nine-month course, conducted in Kabul in affiliation with Kabul Medical University, was structured into three terms: theoretical and practical training, laboratory rotations, and mini-research projects at students' home institutions. Eight students graduated from the first cohort, representing institutions like the Central Public Health Laboratory, Kabul Medical University, the National Malaria and Leishmaniasis Control Program, and Kabul University Veterinary Faculty. Following the program’s success, additional funding was secured for a second TRACDIS training cycle.
